This week's pattern comes with a bit of a story. I had tried making this hat a couple years ago because I thought it was cute. For whatever reason, the hat came out loose and I didn't like the overall look of it at all. Fast forward to now and I decided to make it again with a few of the tricks I've learned since then.
The first thing I did was figure out the size I wanted this hat to fit which is 6-9 months (it will stretch to fit older but fits this age perfectly). I also wanted it to be thicker which would also make it warmer (I do live in a cold state after all!). To achieve this I used Vanna's Choice (and one similar to it for the pink, Deborah something or another) and worked the strands together using a J hook.

From there, I essentially followed the pattern. I worked in increases of 12 and increased to four rounds. I did a couple of rounds of regular old double crochet and then started working on the butterfly portion. Because my hat is for a smaller size, I didn't follow the instructions exactly so that I'd have a smaller butterfly. I ch 7 and skipped 7.
I carefully placed my sc in the last round so that the pink stayed to the inside and the grey on the outside which really added to the look, I think.
