By popular request:
To size for an adult take the toddler beanie and increase two extra row so you are working with 70 st in each round. You will achieve this by fpdc around 4 and then 2 fpdc around next. Then increase again by fpdc around 4 and then 2 fpdc around next.
To size for a teen follow the above directions but only increase once to get 60.
For those of you sizing for younger than 6 month there is another blog below this one on my main feed. They are Emy's leg warmers and the heart is smaller. You can use the instructions for that heart. To size I would suggest using the toddler instructions but only increase to 40 st and remove a row before you start the heart.
Good luck and have happy hooking!

ReplyDeleteThank you!
DeleteI love it, and so will my daughters!! Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteYou are very welcome!
DeleteI am wondering, what happens to the carried over yarn for the next row? its looking stringy to me on mine am i doing something wrong, ty for sharing
Deletenvm, i found the answer
Deletegreat pattern. I love it. I need to figure out how to make it larger for my 5 year old the one i made is little . Thank you, we love it .
ReplyDeleteThanks! To increase to that size, I would start with dc 12, increase to 24, 36, 48 and then increase one more time and see if that gives you your size. This one fits my toddler who is three so another way to do it would be to increase to 60 sticking to the toddler pattern but adding a row of just fpdc around before starting the heart and then keep the heart instructions the same. :)
DeleteThank you
ReplyDeleteI found your blog today and I really appreciate your use of post stitches! Your patterns are very interesting! Keep up the good work.
ReplyDeletewhat a lovely hat, thanks for sharing the pattern
ReplyDeleteAdorable :-) I love the heart. I'd like to make it smaller, perhaps for a newborn. Thanks for sharing the pattern.
ReplyDeleteI wish there was adult instructions ...this is lovely
ReplyDeleteFor an adult, use the baby size instructions but increase an extra riw so you have a total of 12 additional stitches in each round. Then add three to four extra rows beFore you start the heart. Follow the instructions in the pattern for the heart and you should be good to go!
Deleteseriously your prompt response and kindness made my day! ty so much!
DeleteThank you for sharing that with me. It made me smile. We just moved yesterday and the unpacking has me stressed to the max today. I needed that smile! :)
DeleteHow wonderful, Amanda Nicole! This is beautiful. My 12 year old would love this, so I may give it a try for her with your adult size alterations. Thank you!
DeleteYou bet!! I would love to hear how the sixibg alterations turn out. All of you are welcome to share a pic of your item with me too. Just send it to my email.
DeleteDo you cut the color B yarn each round?
ReplyDeleteI cut some and carried others depending on how many stitches were between the color changes. The tips of the heart and the end of the heart I carried but the wide portions of the heart I cut.
DeleteThis is a great pattern! I can't wait to try your truck one next! I've not had much luck with crocheting pictures into a hat but the fpdc make a lovely straight line to work with so I think I might now be able to try to figure out ways to put in other pictures and words. Thanks so much for sharing this for free!
ReplyDeleteThank you! I have one lady who shared a minion beanie she made using this pattern! It was beautiful.
DeleteTo date I have three patterns out using this method. A shamrock, the truck and then of course the heart. I do plan on getting letters out as well. Only time will tell!
Do you fpdc around the ch 2 of each row or just around the other fpdc stitches? Thanks.
ReplyDeleteThe ch 2 does not count as a stitch. Just ignore it like it isn't there :) Your first fpdc will work in the first st and when you join, you'll join to that fpdc as if the ch 2 isn't there.
DeleteHope this helps!
Aww, I wish this came in adult sizes.
ReplyDeleteUse the toddler instructions but increase to 70 st and then add an additional row or two before your start the heart :)
DeleteI'm making this one. I love it. Do you have one with a star? I don't know how to graph a hat.
ReplyDeleteI haven't done a star one, but I'll get it on my list and see if I can't get it released!
DeleteHello,
ReplyDeleteWhen does the increase round of 4 fpdc/2 fpdc start for adult size? Does it start after the toddler pattern after Round 4? I started to make it but all it did was keep the shape of being flad like a frisbee, it wasn't taking on a cap shape. And also I was wanting to do it all ine color instead of adding the heart.I didn't think that was the problem. .What needs to be done to solve this? Thanx
Hi! I would suggest checking out some of my newer graph hat patterns (You can see them by visiting the graph hat tab at the top) and following those instructions to get an adult size hat. :)
DeleteGreat hat, just finished making the small one tonight. Thanks for the pattern.
