C2C Travel Case

At this point, we've probably all seen the infamous corner to corner blanket. Up until this little piece here, I had never worked a C2C. Upon doing a little 6 brick square, I quickly realized it was holey and wouldn't be good for anything designed to carry items like a purse or this here little travel case. So... I modified it and the texture is incredible!

Follow the pattern below and learn how to do a HDC C2C AND a nifty little travel case that can hold all of this ^^ and more only to fold up and compact down to this:

Hook: I

Material: Sugar N Cream Cotton (1 ball of each color should do it) & Velcro

Gauge: non-essential

Hints & Tips:

-          This is a variation of the C2C. Instead of using dc for the piece, I used hdc which requires less st and less ch to achieve each block. This successfully eliminated the holes that would allow something the size of a toothbrush to fall through.

-          If these instructions confuse you, search for the C2C (corner to corner) tutorial on youtube and then just make my alterations (ch 4 instead of 6 to start with and ch 2 instead of 3 and only 2 hdc instead of 3 dc).

Increase side:

Row 1) Ch 4, hdc in 3^rd ch from hook and in next ch, turn – 1 block made

Row 2) Ch 4, hdc in 3^rd ch from hook and in next ch, *slip st, ch 2, 2 hdc* all in ch 3 sp of previous row, turn – 2 blocks made

Row 3) Ch 4, hdc in 3^rd ch from hook and in next ch, *sl st, ch 2, 2 hdc* all in ch 3 sp of previous row twice, turn – 3 blocks

Row 4) Ch 4, hdc in 3^rd ch from hook and in next ch, *sl st, ch 2, 2 hdc* all in ch 3 sp of previous row 3 times, turn – 4 blocks made

Continue going with a new block added each row until you have 28 rows  

Decrease side:

Row 29) Sl st across first 2 hdc, sl st into ch 2 sp, *ch 2, 2 hdc* in ch 3 sp across in every ch 3 sp except for the last one – 26 blocks

Continue decreasing in this manner until you have no blocks left at which point you will join to last st with sl st and tie off

Edging:

Sc evenly around with 3 sc in every corner.

Tie:

Ch 76, sl st in 2^nd ch from hook and all the way down – 75 sl st (make longer ch if you want to tie it in a bow)

How I did my stripes:

All increase:

3 blue

2 white

6 blue

2 white

6 blue

2 white

6 blue

1 white increase

1 white decrease

All decrease:

6 blue

2 white

6 blue

2 white

6 blue

2 white

3 blue

Assembly:

Fold the bottom of the square up (so that the back of the piece is on the inside), flip inside out once the fold is made so the seam can be turned outside right.

You will slip stitch up both sides in the back loops only (so the front loops will be visible when you turn again – about 15 – 16 sl st total on each side

Making the pockets:

Position strips of Velcro (totally the length of the pocket) inside to create the size of pockets you want. Glue in the Velcro with the rough end on one side of the pocket and the softer side on the other side. Make sure they are even so they will match together perfectly.

Cut two small tabs (about half an inch wide) that will be glued right above the pocket so that you can fold the top half down and allow it to close (this will prevent things from falling out). You will glue the Velcro along the top of the pouch and the top of the square so that when it folds down it meets perfectly.
