“next” you need to start in the first st still, I do it this way to shorten the
instructions and hopefully make them easier to follow

Round 1) Using
magic circle, ch 2, 12 dc, pull tight, join to first dc with sl st – 12 dc
Round 2) Ch 2,
2 dc in every st around, join to first dc with sl st – 24 dc
Round 3) Ch 2,
*1 dc in next st, 2 dc in next st* around, join to first dc with sl st – 36 dc
Round 4) Ch 2,
*1 dc in next 2 st, 2 dc in next st* around, join to first dc with sl st – 48

Decorative Edging:

Do the same in the handle rings.
