Holiday Ruffles Dress

Hook: H
Material: Red Heart Super Saver, 3 buttons
Gauge: 8 sl st rows = 2”, 5 sl st = 1”, 7 sc st = 2”, 4 sc rows = 1”, 4 loop rows = 2”, 1 ch 3 loop = almost 1”

Hints & Tips
-          When doing the chest piece, the sl st go in the back loops only.
-          Use the gauge to create other sizes – more info on other sizes at bottom.
-          Toddler sized poncho pattern after toddler dress pattern, I’d suggest a type of sleeved cover for younger though.
-          Highly customizable: make layers longer and cut out the fourth layer for just three layers, do any color for any occasion or for no occasion at all, add flowers, etc
-     Two of the photos from the collage are at the bottom which will allow you to enlarge them. I find that sometimes a picture can really help me get through a tricky spot, if I happen to encounter one.

***Sizing information -
The dress - To resize the dress, use the gauge to figure out how many more inches or how many less inches you need. For example, for a newborn sized dress, I would cut off about 1 rows from the chest area of the dress. Everything else automatically resizes except for the lengths of the layers. Arriving at different sizes in this dress is super easy because all you have to do is adjust the beginning chain and the rounds in each layer by adding more or less. If the person you are making the dress for is with you, it makes it even easier because you can measure it that way! Take note that the chest piece stretches quite a bit; that is something you'll want to keep in mind when using the beginning chain to measure. You won't need to make it larger so it will fit, the exact size should fit perfectly.

The poncho - To resize the poncho, you'll want to alter the size of the beginning chain. I do not suggest making this poncho for anyone smaller then a 3-4T due to the holes in it. For larger sizes, make sure the chain will fit a head through it, From there you should be able to follow the same set of instructions and continue on until it is the desired length you need it. The chain that connects each round will get longer  and longer providing a unique look and is perfect for the arm hole like shown in the pictures.

  1. Ok I don't know if you got that message or not b/c I am new to this messaging stuff but just in case...can you tell me how to crochet this beautiful dress in a size 7 for a little girl in very simple instructions? I'm not very good at changing things except using a larger hook but I don't know whether that would work in this case. I would appreciate anything you could tell me to help. I would love to make this dress for my two oldest granddaughters who are a size 7. Thank you for your time and consideration. I really appreciate it!

    1. I don't see a message in my e-mail but I'd be happy to answer your question here.

The instructions are very repetative which makes resizing very simple. For the chest piece, when you make the chain, add the number of stitches you'd need to fit around your granddaughters. So for my daughter I needed 73 ch to fit around her chest. You might need 83, 93, etc. Just keep going until you put it around her and it fits perfectly.

Next, you'll want to increase the number of ch that goes up and you slip stitch down (the ribbed look). For my daughter i used 19 to get the right length on it. you might want to use 29 or so. The best way to adjust this size is to use your granddaughter and adjust the stitch counts to fit around her.

Then for the layers, You'll just repeat the rounds until they are long enough. :)

I hope this helps! If you have any more questions, just let me know. You might have an easier time if you use the contact me button at the top. :)
